Book excerpt: Paizo Publishing is the award-winning publisher of fantasy roleplaying games, accessories, and board games. Pathfinder Tales: Liar's Bargain is the latest in their popular novel series. The sequel to Hugo Award Winner Tim Pratt’s Liar’s Island! For charming con man Rodrick and his talking sword Hrym, life is all about taking what you can and getting away clean. But when the pair are arrested in the crusader nation of Lastwall, Rodrick faces immediate execution, with Hrym spending the rest of eternity trapped in an enchanted scabbard. Their only hope lies in a secret government program in which captured career criminals are teamed up and sent on suicide missions too sensitive for ordinary soldiers. Trapped between almost certain death and actual certain death, the two join forces with a team of rogues and scoundrels, ready to serve their year-long tenure as best they can. Yet not everyone in their party is what they seem, and a death sentence may only be the start of the friends’ problems. Book excerpt: With strength, wit, rakish charm, and a talking sword named Hrym, Rodrick has all the makings of a classic hero - except for the conscience. Instead, he and Hrym live a high life as scoundrels, pulling cons and parting the weak from their gold. When a mysterious woman invites them along on a quest into the frozen north in pursuit of a legendary artifact, it seems like a prime opportunity to make some easy coin - especially if there's a chance for a double-cross. Along with a hooded priest and a half-elven tracker, the team sets forth into a land of witches, yetis, and ancient magic. As the miles wear on, however, Rodrick's companions begin acting steadily stranger, leading man and sword to wonder what exactly they've gotten themselves into... From Hugo Award-winner Tim Pratt, author of City of the Fallen Sky, comes a bold new tale of ice, magic, and questionable morality set in the world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Wouldn't it be great if kids came home from the library holding their sides, eager to pass on the funny things they heard in the library that day? According to Reid, the best way to get the attention of young people is to make them laugh. From easy-to-win-over preschoolers to unimpressed teens, this book will serve as your personal humor coach for even the toughest audiences out there. With tricks of the trade on how to warm up an audience, choose age-appropriate material, use facial and vocal expressions to lure them in, and select props, you're on your way to something very funny! Young children won't be able to hold in their giggles after such programs as "The World's Worst Ice-Cream Story," and intermediate school-age kids will love to take part in book theme parties in honor of Captain Underpants or such special celebrations as "Boo Ha-Ha!" Even those middle- and high-school students, once convinced to participate in "Comedy Club" (a program that combines reading and stand-up) or spoonerisms (a wordplay game), will be rolling in the aisles. To enrich all of these programs, Reid also includes a funny reader's theater script, tips on how to host lively library tours and school visits, and even rap songs that extol the virtues of reading and the library! A complete resource for getting children and young adults snickering and having fun in the stacks with innovative programming that uses humor, Something Funny helps you to connect with children and young adults and, along the way, make the library the hippest place in town!

It begins with the basic Bible stories, and ends with exposing the secrets behind witchcraft. Since all of us have fallen asleep on the couch, at one point in time, reading the Scriptures, he has written the entirety of this book in poetic format, with the intention of making it more enjoyable, and easier, to read. Nick has also attempted to add humor, where appropriate, without disrespecting or disrupting the Lord Jesus or His Word. Nick resides in the quiet, reclusive Blue Ridge Mountains, with his lovely girlfriend, Andrea, and their adorable daughter, Harley. They have a timber wolf hybrid, as their loyal family pet. Though this is his first book, Nick hopes this initial accomplishment will serve as a launching pad for a reputable literary career.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[A] rare piece of scholarly detective work." -- Margaret Mills, Ohio State University In Quest of Indian Folktales publishes for the first time a collection of northern Indian folktales from the late 19th century. Reputedly the work of William Crooke, a well-known folklorist and British colonial official, the tales were actually collected, selected, and translated by a certain Pandit Ram Gharib Chaube. In 1996, Sadhana Naithani discovered this unpublished collection in the archive of the Folklore Society, London. Since then, she has uncovered the identity of the mysterious Chaube and the details of his collaboration with the famous folklorist. In an extensive four-chapter introduction, Naithani describes Chaube's relationship to Crooke and the essential role he played in Crooke's work, as both a native informant and a trained scholar. By unearthing the fragmented story of Chaube's life, Naithani gives voice to a new identity of an Indian folklore scholar in colonial India. The publication of these tales and the discovery of Chaube's role in their collection reveal the complexity of the colonial intellectual world and problematize our own views of folklore in a postcolonial world.
